Exprimere is more than a collection of rare wines from the coolest corner of California’s Santa Ynez Valley. It is also a careful study of the winemaking craft, and a paean to the unknown. It’s a quest to learn what it is that makes wine so baffling and alluring.

Is it possible to approach winemaking as a grand controlled experiment? This was the question that led us to launch Exprimere. Using the time-honored methods of centuries past, we interpret the same grapes two different ways.
Exprimere is a rejection of the theory of terroir, and an argument for nurture over nature. But we’re only able to conduct our grand experiment because our grapes, grown in California’s Sta. Rita Hills, are inarguably superb.
Every good winemaker relies upon biology and chemistry, but acts on intuition. We are scientists who believe that the sum of the process transcends the data. As a team, we aim to elevate winemaking from a craft to a carefully considered art.
We’re curious about the knowledge-based decisions, made in a moment, that transform wine from the ordinary to the sublime, and transport the experience of appreciation from the rational to the emotional, unfurling its secrets as it swirls in the glass.
